Crossover Gallery
For PAN Amsterdam, Carina Riezebos is responsible for the art direction of Crossover Gallery. Drawing on her experience as a designer and art director, she brings together art, materials, space and design. Warm-toned, tactile materials shape the exhibition space, while contemporary design pieces bring the stories behind the artworks to life.
A key source of inspiration in the art presented at Crossover Gallery is the passage of time, in which historic interiors and architecture serve as vessels of cultural pride, myths, memories and nature. Riezebos explores the relationship between past and present through the exhibition’s setting, with walls in soft shades of grey and white, warm-white deep-pile carpeting, and a sculptural sofa with natural wood elements as the focal point of the installation.
The contemporary design objects she presents enter into a dialogue with the surrounding works by other artists, bringing together different artistic perspectives.
For this installation, Riezebos also introduces two new designs of her own: Mare I and Mare II, a pair of vases crafted in the region surrounding Naples. Produced through an entirely sustainable process, the vases combine recycled glass and denim, natural mineral composites and architectural remnants in contemporary sculptural forms.
